Traveling to Buenavista
Benito Juárez Airport – Mexico City
The best time to arrive to Benito Juárez airport in Mexico City is early
afternoon. Most airlines have morning departure flights from the United States
that will get you into Mexico between 1 and 2 PM.
Bear in mind that Buenavista is approximately a 3-hour bus ride from
Mexico City.
Mexican
Immigration
If you are arriving to Mexico City from outside the country, you will have to
fill out a Tourist Card and a Customs Form. These documents are usually filled
out on the airplane before you land. After leaving the airplane, your first stop will be Mexican Immigration. Here
you will have to present your travel documents and identification for review.
You may supply a valid Driver’s License along with a Certified Copy of your
Birth Certificate or a valid Passport. For security purposes, we recommend that
all students use a valid passport. You will be asked how long you plan to be in
Mexico. Please be sure that the Immigration Official properly stamps or records
the correct number of days on your FM-1 Tourist Card for your planned stay in
Mexico. Do not lose your FM-1. You will need to surrender it to the airline
ticket agent when you leave the country. If you do lose it you can get a
replacement. It will cost approximately $40 USD.
Baggage
Claim / Customs
After collecting your luggage in Baggage Claim you will have to pass through
Customs Inspection. Once you
arrive at the Customs Checkpoint, your Customs Form will be fed into a
computerized card reader. The computer will decide whether you can proceed or if
your bags need to be opened and reviewed by the Customs Official.
Airport
Terminal
After clearing Customs you will proceed to the Reception Area. This area can
become very congested since it is the only area where friends and relatives are
allowed to meet incoming passengers. If
you requested an Escort Guide, you will be met in the Reception Area by our
representative.
Currency
Exchange
There are several Currency Exchange Counters located throughout the terminal and
baggage claim area. You will want to exchange some of your currency into Mexican
Pesos before leaving the terminal to be used for bus tickets and incidentals.
DHS
- New US Passport Rules (IMPORTANT)
Please be aware the effective in January 2007, US Citizens will be required
to have a valid US Passport for re-entry into the United States.
