divina voluntad. Por Jesucristo Nuestro Señor,
Amén.

Dear Student,
We learned long ago that with God, there are
no coincidences especially for those willing to accept His plan for them. No one can argue that the Hispanic population is the fastest growing
segment of the population in the United States. Unfortunately, there is a vast number of
Hispanics that are becoming indifferent to religion. One might ask, "How can that be if
Mexico is such a Catholic country?" There are many reasons to explain
this. Your desire to unite yourself to
the will of God and to help shepherd Christ's flock has stirred in you an urging
to stretch your mind and heart a bit further. Learning another culture and
language is no easy task. We can assure you, however, that you will grow in
spirit and in person in ways that you never imagined.
Students
have the possibility to receive an International Diploma in Spanish (DIE)
issued through FIDESCU; the Foundation for the Investigation and Development of
Spanish Culture and with the approval and recognition from the Department of
Spanish Language and Culture of the Pontifical University of Salamana in Spain.
Exams are scheduled in advance and subject to the availability of an official
evaluator. Click here for further information.
There are several excellent books and souces of information that we recommend to anyone wishing to minister
to the Mexican immigrant population in the United States. These books
reveal the history, human struggle, and identity of the people and country in an
honest and sometimes self critical way; not as a reproach, but with the purpose
and desire to "sacar adelante" or help develop and improve this great
people and nation called México.

- The Pastoral Program -
It has been the theme of the US Catholic Conference of Bishops' National Plan
for Hispanic Ministry to evangelize from within the culture and not to evangelize
the culture itself. The Mother of God did no less when she presented herself
to Juan Diego and the Mexican people. She spoke to them in their native tongue,
Náhuatl. Juan Diego and the indigenous people easily and readily identified with
her because of her physical characteristics and manner of dress. In this way Our
Lady was telling them that she knew and understood them. They connected to her
because she presented herself as one like them.
The focus of our San David Pastoral Spanish Program is to
improve a student's understanding and usage of the language from within its
cultural context.
